My iPad is broken/was stolen - what now? (for Austria)

Your iPad has been stolen? How frustrating! Almost as frustrating as trying to disinfect an iPad in the dishwasher and drying it in the microwave!

But let’s focus on the situation at hand: right now, there’s no software to report your cash register failure. Time to take matters into your own hands. Here’s how to get started.

First aid

It’s time to rely on a tried-and-true method:

Grab a pen and an invoice pad with carbon copies, and manually write invoices for your guests. This ensures you remain compliant with legal requirements, even during a downtime. Here you can find a detailed article about handwritten invoices: What information must be included on a handwritten invoice to be RKSV-konform?

Why use carbon copies? Here is why:

  • The carbon copy stays with you for your bookkeeping and to re-post transactions later.
  • The original goes to the guest so they can use it for tax deductions if needed.

Make sure to keep your carbon copies safe and organized—they’ll be essential for your records once you’re back up and running.

Writing invoices during an interruption is mandatory

You are legally obliged to write invoices during an interruption, regardless of how long it lasts or which RKSV package from fiskaltrust you have chosen.
The moment your cash register stops working, the 48-hour grace period begins. This grace period ends as soon as your cash register is operational again, and you can resume posting invoices.

The interruption lasted less than 48 hours

Good news! If the failure lasted less than 48 hours, there’s no additional action required. Simply:

  1. Keep your handwritten invoices - What information must be included on a handwritten invoice to be RKSV-konform?
  2. Post everything later once your system is back online - How do I book manually written invoices from an outage (Ausfall)?

If you have another Apple device with a fully set-up orderbird PRO app, you can continue working as usual.

The interruption lasted longer than 48 hours

If the outage exceeded 48 hours, you are required to take specific actions based on your RKSV package from fiskaltrust:

For RKSV Sorglos-Paket Users

Report the cash register failure by file a notification for the outage after 48 hours. Here is how: Sorglos-Paket | Cash register failure report for a failure after 48 hours
Once your new Apple device is set up with orderbird PRO:

  • you log in your new Apple device.
  • The app will either automatically print the Nullbeleg or prompt you to manually print it (indicated by a yellow flashing bar at the top of the screen).
  • Keep the Nullbeleg securely for your records and inspection purposes.

Thermal paper

Make a copy or scan the receipt, as thermal paper can fade over time.

For RKSV Basis-Paket Users

File a failure report on FinanzOnline.at within 7 days, and confirm the failure on portal.fiskaltrust.at.

You can find out how to do this here: Basis-Paket | Cash register failure message for a failure after 48 hours
