What do I need to consider when setting up my Apple device for the first time?

To ensure your POS runs smoothly from day one, we recommend a fresh start for your Apple device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod) by choosing “Set Up Manually” or by first performing a “Factory Reset.”
While Apple offers convenient solutions like “Quick Start” or iCloud backups for personal devices, your iPad is the heart of your POS system, making a manual setup the safest route. This ensures that no old network configurations or hidden system settings are carried over in the background. A “fresh” system provides the most stable foundation for your daily business operations.
Already set up via Quick Start? Learn how to reset it below under “Did you already set up your device via “Quick Start”?".
How to set up your device correctly:
During the initial setup, it is mandatory to select these two options on the screen:
- “Set Up Manually”
- “Don't Transfer Apps & Data”
Did you already set up your device via “Quick Start”?
No problem—if the device was purchased used, was already connected to another orderbird account, or if you accidentally used “Quick Start,” you can reset it to factory settings in just a few steps.
How to remove old settings for a fresh start:
- On your device, go to Settings > General.
- Scroll to the very bottom and tap Transfer or Reset iPad (on older iOS versions: Reset).
- Select Erase All Content and Settings and confirm.
- Once the device restarts, set it up manually as described above.
Tip: Further information on how to reset an iPad, for example, can be found on Apple's support pages.
